Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department arrested a monk named Borelle Sirisumana Thera, who is allegedly has aided and abetted Thilini Priyamali, who was in custody for a huge financial fraud while running an office on the 34th floor of the World Trade Centre.

This monk, who resides in a temple called Kadawatha Webada Arahattaka Samadhi Aranya.

He was arrested by a team of officers of the Criminal Investigation Department who went to the temple.

Investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department have revealed that Thilini Priyamali had a very close association with this monk.

But he has stated before the Criminal Investigation Department that she was a member of the Dayaka Sabha of the temple and that he had no relationship with her beyond that and he was not involved in any fraudulent activities. Investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department have revealed that she has spent a large amount of money on the temple. It is alleged that she had taken disgruntled businessmen to the temple who were asking for money they had given her.There the Thera is said to have shown the businessman a room where a stock what appeared to be gold bars were stored.

The Thera had allegedly told them that the gold belonged to Thilini and was kept in the temple for safety.

The Thera has told them that Thilini will return the money after selling the stock of gold.

In addition to that, the Thera is said to have met some businessmen in Colombo and encouraged them to invest in Thilini’s business ventures, a senior police officer said. In the investigation, it has been revealed that the gold coloured bars which were said to be gold are not gold and are brass blocks.
